Japan Burger Championship
Japan Burger Championship 2026 Returns to Yokohama This June
If you think great burgers can only be found in America, Japan’s biggest burger competition is ready to prove otherwise. The Japan Burger Championship 2026 returns to Yokohama this June, bringing together some of the country’s finest gourmet burger chefs for three days of delicious competition, food tasting, and family-friendly entertainment.
Now in its fifth year, the championship has grown into one of Japan’s most anticipated food events, attracting more than 170,000 visitors since its debut. From June 12 to 14, burger lovers from across Japan and overseas will gather at Yokohama’s famous Red Brick Warehouse to discover creative new flavours, support their favourite chefs, and find out who will be crowned Japan’s top burger maker.
What is the Japan Burger Championship 2026?
The Japan Burger Championship 2026 is Japan’s premier gourmet burger competition, showcasing the country’s best burger chefs and restaurants. Held at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Event Plaza, the event combines a national cooking competition with a large-scale gourmet burger festival.
Admission is free, allowing visitors to watch the competition, sample burgers from dozens of vendors, and participate in public voting for a special award recognising the most popular burger sold during the event.

The Competition
Twelve burger chefs from around Japan have already advanced through the preliminary selection process and will compete in the semi-finals on June 12 and 13. Following the semi-finals, the top six competitors will move on to the grand final on June 14.
This year’s theme is “Energy Burger”, challenging chefs to create a gourmet burger designed to provide stamina and satisfaction during Japan’s hot summer season. Contestants will be judged on creativity, flavour, presentation, and overall execution.
The winner will earn the honour of representing Japan in the Hamburger Category at the World Food Championships in the United States this October.
Gourmet Burgers from Across Japan
Alongside the competition, visitors can enjoy burgers from 27 gourmet burger restaurants operating throughout the festival grounds.
Participating vendors include former championship winners, renowned steakhouses, international burger specialists, and regional Japanese chefs showcasing ingredients unique to their local areas. Several restaurants will also be offering exclusive burgers created specifically for the event.
To encourage visitors to sample more burgers, organisers have introduced a sharing option. Full-sized burgers can be cut into halves or quarters. At the same time, half-sized burgers can be split, making it easier for groups to sample a wider variety of creations without getting full too quickly.
For dedicated burger fans, there is also a social media challenge. Visitors who photograph a burger from each participating shop and share the photo online with the designated hashtag will receive a special limited-edition prize.
Previous Champions Return
Several former champions will be returning to showcase their award-winning creations. Harry’s Junction from Miyagi Prefecture, the 2024 champion, will be serving its famous burger featuring local zunda, a sweet mashed edamame speciality, combined with sour cream. The restaurant is also among this year’s twelve semi-finalists.
Meanwhile, the 2025 champion, Brisk Stand from Hyogo Prefecture, will offer its signature double cheeseburger, layered with cheddar cheese and onions.
International Burger Talent Joins the Festival
The Japan Burger Championship 2026 will also welcome several acclaimed international burger restaurants. One More The Burger House from Dubai will make its Japanese debut after previously winning first place at the World Food Championships. Visitors can look forward to a gourmet burger featuring Japanese-style milk buns infused with truffle aroma and fresh wild arugula.
South Korea’s Melting Soul, winner of the 2023 Korean Championship, will bring its popular gourmet burger featuring double smash patties, thick cheese, and a bacon skirt.
Also representing South Korea is Zesty Saloon, winner of the 2026 Korean Championship, known for its smash patty burger topped with double cheese and bacon.

Live Entertainment and Family Activities
The festival is about much more than burgers. Visitors can enjoy live performances and family-friendly attractions throughout the weekend. Yokohama-based rock band Aonowa will perform on June 13 at 10:30 am.
Additional highlights include appearances by the White Angels police motorcycle unit and performances by the 35-member Kanagawa Prefectural Police Band. These activities help create a lively festival atmosphere suitable for visitors of all ages.
